Memory Care
Heritage Crossing offers Memory Care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia, and other forms of cognitive decline, in a community built around belonging, warmth, and specialized support.
If you’re searching for Memory Care in Akron for someone you love, you’re probably carrying a lot at once. Questions about safety, care quality, and whether your loved one will feel at home somewhere new. It’s a hard decision, and we don’t take that lightly.
From the moment your loved one becomes part of Heritage Crossing, our team is committed to knowing them as an individual: their history, their preferences, what brings them comfort and what sparks their curiosity. That’s what sets us apart. Our award-winning Memory Care program combines specialized clinical support with the kind of warmth and connection that makes a real difference in daily life, for residents and for the families who love them.
Memory Care at Heritage Crossing is delivered by a team with specialized training in dementia communication, behavior management, and person-centered care. Every resident receives 24/7 support and supervision, medication management, and coordinated healthcare oversight. Our care partners provide gentle cueing and redirection throughout the day, along with thoughtful assistance with bathing, dressing, mobility, and personal care — all with dignity and respect.
Care plans are individualized, built in partnership with families, and reviewed regularly as each resident’s needs evolve. Mealtimes are supported with dementia-friendly dining approaches that encourage independence and enjoyment at the table.

Daily life in Memory Care at Heritage Crossing is structured, comforting, and purposeful.
Activities are designed around each resident’s abilities and interests, with a focus on connection and genuine engagement. Residents participate in music and art enrichment, reminiscence and storytelling, gentle movement and fitness, and sensory experiences. Small-group activities and warm one-on-one interactions are woven into each day so residents feel seen and at ease, not lost in the crowd.
The physical environment is intentionally calming. The Memory Care neighborhood is secure, easy to move through, and designed to reduce anxiety, with familiar sights, warm gathering spaces, and access to the outdoor memory care garden for fresh air and comfort.
Heritage Crossing’s broader community remains accessible for appropriate activities and visits. Memory Care residents remain part of the whole community.
At Heritage Crossing, we treat family members as true partners in care. You’re always welcome, and you never need a reason to visit. The journey of dementia affects everyone around the person living with it, and we know that.
Our team is available to you directly. We provide regular care plan updates, ongoing communication, dementia education resources, and thoughtful guidance on visiting approaches that bring real comfort to your loved one. Events and activities are open to family members throughout the year, so you can be part of the moments that matter.
If you just need someone to talk to, we’re here for that, too.
Heritage Crossing is located at 251 N. Cleveland Massillon Rd., putting families close to strong medical resources and a city that’s easy to get in and out of.
Healthcare access. Two of northeast Ohio’s most respected health systems are within a short drive. Cleveland Clinic Akron General is a 511-bed Level I trauma center in downtown Akron, approximately 8 miles away, with neurological specialists and a broad specialty network that families navigating Alzheimer’s or other dementia diagnoses may find valuable. Summa Health Akron Campus, also in downtown Akron at a similar distance, is a 750-bed Level I trauma center, Comprehensive Stroke Center, and 2026 Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals recipient. For orthopedic care, Crystal Clinic Orthopaedic Center’s main hospital campus is on Embassy Pkwy, just about 2 miles from Heritage Crossing.
Ease of visiting. Akron is well-connected by major highways, and the community’s location on the north side near Fairlawn makes it easy to reach from across the region. For out-of-town family members, several hotels within a short drive offer comfortable options for extended visits.
Ohio’s tax picture. Ohio does not tax Social Security income, and residents 65 and older qualify for a senior citizen tax credit. For families managing the costs of Memory Care alongside other retirement income, these exemptions are worth understanding.
Memory Care is a specialized level of care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia, or other forms of cognitive decline. Assisted Living, meanwhile, supports residents who need help with daily activities while maintaining substantial independence. The community is open and social, with residents directing their own days.
At Heritage Crossing, the Memory Care neighborhood is purpose-built with a secure environment, a higher care-partner-to-resident ratio, dementia-specific programming, and a team specifically trained in dementia communication and behavioral support. The physical space is designed to reduce anxiety, support safety, and encourage ease of movement.
Everything about our approach to Memory Care (the activities, the mealtimes, the daily structure) is tailored to the unique cognitive needs of each resident.
Memory Care at Heritage Crossing is designed for the full range of dementia stages. We don’t ask families to find a new community when their loved one’s condition advances. Care plans are reviewed regularly and adjusted in partnership with families — always with the goal of preserving the highest possible quality of life, dignity, and comfort at every stage. Our care partners are trained to recognize what works for each individual, because what helps one person won’t necessarily help another.
Families are active partners at Heritage Crossing. Our team communicates proactively: regular care conferences, direct access to the care team, and prompt outreach when something changes. We also offer dementia education resources and guidance on visiting strategies that help family members feel confident rather than uncertain about how to connect with their loved one.
You’re also invited to share in the community’s programming and events. Being present in your loved one’s daily life doesn’t stop at the door.
Couples can remain at Heritage Crossing while receiving different levels of support. A partner who doesn’t need Memory Care can be in Assisted Living, while their spouse receives specialized Memory Care, both within the same community. Our team works with both individuals to build a plan that honors their relationship without forcing a choice between staying together and getting the right level of care.
